TINUBU ASSURES WORKERS OF A BETTER DEAL

By Ibukun Akintaro

APC Presidential Campaign Council led by its Director General and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong on Tuesday 19th December 2022 organised a Town Hall meeting with the organised Labour in Abuja where the Presidential Candidate of the APC Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave an insight into what his relationship with the Labour will be when elected into office.

Asiwaju who said his manifesto, “Renewed Hope” captures his plans for reviving the economy and boosting production said the Nigerian worker will have a greater deal under his Presidency.

He said his relationship with the Labour movement goes deep as he worked side by side with some of its frontline leaders in the fight for the enthronement of democracy many years ago.

Tinubu explained that his vision for Nigeria is anchored on creating economic opportunities through industrialisation, fighting corruption and enhancing security as well as harnessing the potentials of every part of the country. Jobs he said must be created for the youths which will make the economy grow while crime goes down.

He said Nigerian workers apart from deserving living wages, must be given the opportunity to own houses, access quality healthcare, get credit to afford basic necessities of life as well as have their children get quality education through student loans among others.

Tinubu assured that the Labour will be carried along in the governance process as he believes in collective responsibility which is evident from his antecedent as Governor of Lagos State where he was able to marshal resources and gurantee the survival of the State depsite drought orchestrated by the then federal government.

Director General APC Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Plateau State Simon Bako Lalong appreciated the organised Labour for giving the APC Presidential Candidate the opportunity to share his vision with them and to also explain how he intends to impact their lives and that of Nigerians in general when elected.

NLC President Comrade Ayuba Wabba while presenting a charter of demands by the workers said the Nigerian worker is the one that really creates value but yet has been under-paid, under-employed and even exploited both in and out of service.

He said workers want a living wage, social security, controlled inflation and a regime of energy security that is based on local refining of Nigerian crude rather than import of refined products which has been used to siphon money belonging to all Nigerians under the guise of subsidy.

Also speaking, TUC President Comrade Peter Osifo said the Nigerian worker is tired of being shortchanged and left with no option than to embark on strike to press for his rights.

He said in the next dispensation, the workers want to be part of a government that will be transparent, responsible and prudent in order to manage the resources of the nation rather than plunging generations yet unborn into debt.

Deputy DG PCC and former NLC President Adams Osiohmole said Asiwaju presents the best deal for Nigerian workers because of his antecedents which clearly show that he is compassionate, strategic and open to carrying all sectors along.

He said a vote for Tinubu will make the Nigerian worker comfortable enough to give his best for the growth of the nation.

Director of Press and Public Affairs to the DG APC Presidential Campaign Council and Governor of Plateau State.

LAGOS RED LINE TO MOVE 3. 3M PASSENGERS WEEKLY, AS LAWMAKERS CONFIRM 85% PROJECT COMPLETION

By Ibukun Akintaro

The chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, Hon. Temitope Adewale has disclosed that trains in the Red Line of the State’s rail mass transit would move 500,000 passengers daily.

According to a statement which emanated from the office of Eromosele Ebhomele, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, this amounts to 3.5 million passengers weekly and 15 million passengers a month.

Hon. Adewale made the disclosure on Thursday when he led the committee on an on-the-site visit to the train stations between Ifako-Ijaiye and Yaba.

Adewale, who confirmed that the project was at 85% of its completion, said it showed that the State government understood the need to boost the transportation sector to ease daily movement of residents.

“Remember that the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, during the presentation of the 2023 budget, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the purchase of trains, and his zeal to complete the project.

“So today, by the powers conferred on us by the Constitution and under the headship of Mr. Speaker. We decided to conduct an oversight on the Ministry of Transportation and to be precise, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

“We have visited the railway and five stations in Iju, Agege, Ikeja, the Yaba and now Oyingbo where the rolling stocks or trains are parked contrary to what we’ve been hearing that the trains are not here.

“From what we have seen so far, the project is approaching completion and having spoken with the contractors, we are sure the Governor will do the commissioning as projected believing that the possibility is true and positive,” Hon. Adewale said.

He said the train service became necessary because the Lagos master plan indicated the need to inculcate it and increase passengers using mass transit.

“The red line will help move 500,000 Lagosians on a daily basis and reduce heavy traffic where more cars and personal vehicles would be left at home.

“This administration has achieved a milestone and the our Speaker has been able to give support to the executive to ensure that funds are put into good use,” he added.

On his part, Hon. Bisi Yusuff, a lawmaker, described the project as the result of good leadership and continuity in government.

According to Hon. Yusuff, the project was actually started by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and built upon by subsequent administrations.

Noting that the trains would help the State’s economic growth and smart city dream, the lawmaker pleaded for proper maintenance mechanisms.

He urged Lagosians to vote massively for the APC so they would continue to enjoy dividends of democracy.

Engineer Olasunkanmi Okusaga of the Directorate of Transport, promised that the project would be delivered at the target time.

“The reason for this season is Jesus Christ who the Bible quoted as saying, “Let the Children come to me for theirs is the kingdom of God” This clearly states the importance of the children. They are special and we should treat them as such”, Olori Taiwo stressed.

CROATIA SEND BRAZIL OUT THE WORLD CUP

By Walter Sindara

Brazil have been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup after losing a quarter-final shootout against 2018 runners-up, Croatia.

Brazil in search of a record sixth win, arrived in Qatar as one of the tournament favourites with their win in stages over Serbia and Switzerland, before a shock defeat to Cameroon.

However, they pulled it together in the last 16 against South Korea, winning 4-1, while they looked to be heading to the semi-finals for the first time since 2014 when Neymar broke the deadlock against Croatia halfway through the period of extra-time.

Croatia went on to equalise and won 4-2 on penalties after misses from Real Madrid youngster, Rodrygo and Marquinhos.

Brazil’s wait for a World Cup title will now be at least 24 years by the time 2026 comes around, matching the drought between their 1970 and 1994 triumphs.
